Scratch that. Best cover EVER.

So, once upon a time I made a list of my favorite covers of great summer songs.

Bump all those songs down a notch and put this in its place.

I am never surprised by the fantastic things Mormon young men and women do. (Partly perhaps because of the things they can't do?) However, I am never not overjoyed when I find things like this.

I sure hope the Prophet sees this. I have a feeling President Monson would give a deep chuckle, at the very least.

Some gems to watch for:

  • PRO guitar player at the beginning.
  • Slight mullet on the redhead.
  • One rebel with a blue shirt instead of white
  • Third boy from the left @ 0:51 who obviously knows how to body roll, just let it out buddy.
  • My favorite move ever at 0:56. The circle roll?
  • 1:02, someone isn't sure where the camera is...
  • 1:11 is it me or did they steal that move from 'N Sync?

  • Freestyle dancing that starts at 1:44! They're all winners. Don't get too distracted by the pelvic and arm thrusts by the boy in the red tie, or you'll miss the head flip from his friend on the right and the boy on the left who looks like he is shufflin'
  • Rock skipping at 1:57 (red tie boy is stiiiiilll dancing. That boy should be in Footloose)
  • At 2:07, the inevitable has happened. A tie has come off, and a collar has popped.
  • 2:10. More pelvic thrusts. I think they get better every time. His future children will love his dancing.
  • However, I think I better appreciate the hips done at 2:19 by Spencer W. Kimball glasses boy.
  • More good hair flips at 2:39. And in a boat no less.
  • More freestyle dancing at 2:50. Obviously this freestyle is done by the more experienced priests, they are much more comfortable in their awkwardness. I encourage you to watch this part multiple times so you can get the full effect. I can't do justice to them all. But I'll try. From R to L
    • This boy keeps on turnin'...Proud Mary keeps on burnin'
    • Clearly befuddled by the wake of Proud Mary.
    • You really only need to watch this boy on two words. "Else" and "overwhelmed". You won't be disappointed.
    • We've got here a classic crooner, he's obviously watched a lot of Backstreet Boys music videos.
    • The thumb guy. Every awkward dance group has to have one.
    • Though sometimes hid by thumb guy, please note his great use of big arms, and his attempted "hair flip"
    • Next we have a Stormtrooper. Maybe my favorite.
    • We have some amazing hips on the next one. Less is definitely more here. The more subtle the hips, the more awkward the movement, the more joy in my heart.
    • He's a bit of a move stealer, takes some big arms and some Stormtrooper moves, but adds his own delightful tie flip at the end.
  • Their younger friends at 2:58 have a freestyle of their own. Less to talk about there. Except for the running man. Which frankly, I think we should all talk about a lot more.
  • The big boys come back at 3:01. I will, in this case, only focus on five boys.
    • Proud Mary appeals to three audiences, B-boys, Charleston lovers, and Asian tourists.
    • Our crooner grooms himself by checking his pits, making sure he looks good for the ladies. Then gets really jiggy with it at 3:08. I will probably steal this move for my future life.
    • This time, thumb guy goes mime for a bit and looks stuck in a box before combing his hair.
    • Amazing hips boy does the shopping cart! I'm so glad that classic wasn't left out.
    • And then move stealer holds his own at 3:06 where he gets a little bit country while listening to a little bit of rock 'n roll.
  • And we end, with a little booty action from Proud Mary and Amazing hips boy.

Well done boys. Bravo. The Grantsville West Stake should be very proud.

Not only does the redhead have a mullet, but he is also sporting some steps. Remember those? Thanks for sharing. This video rocks. If Cory is ever called to YM they will totally make a music video!

I couldn't help myself. Once I started the music video critique, my hours on Tmtp just gushed out.

and, after reading and watching (many times, obviously) all i need to say is this:
1) @1:11 all i could think was YMCA... not NSYNC. ha. and
2) 3:08-3:11... can we put that on a loop?

ROFL. This is amazing! Lynette, we are so proud. Although the fact that anyone has spent hours of their life reading TMtP kind of makes us feel like we should apologize. And Kelsey, we agree that someone totally needs to make a gif out of 3:08-3:11.
